Mega Sena is one of the largest national lotteries in Latin America and one of the oldest in the world. The Jackpot of this popular game was first drawn in 1961 under the leadership of the State Bank of Brazil, The Caixa Economica Federal Bank.

The Brazilian lottery draw is held every week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 19:00 (GMT) in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia.

The Special New Year's draw of Mega Sena, Mega da Virada, is held on the 31st of December. This draw is extremely popular among Brazilians because of the enormous Jackpot accumulated during the whole year: 5% of each draw's prize pool is summed up and drawn on New Year's Eve. The largest Mega da Virada Jackpot was drawn in 2020 and amounted to R$ 325 250 216.
